- Hi everyone! :^)
-
- You may have read sometime ago on one of the newsgroups that I was making a
- compilation of the best A1200 demos I could find, so that the Silica shop in
- Sheffield could show something other than a bland Workbench screen! Now Escom
- here have an A1200 up and running (to my great suprise), so I'll try to get
- them to use it as well.
-
- What relevance to you? Well, I'm hoping that people will think it's good
- enough to use in other shop on a (basic) A1200. I could not find anything
- else (on it's own) that would be good enough for that purpose.
-
- #########ALSO, I need to confirm that it runs well on a base A1200 - my
- accelerator (GVP) can`t be turned off, and removing it is very scary.. :(
-
- Why post here? Well, I'm hoping to catch a different segment of the Amiga
- populous that might be interested :) . csa.introduction seems like a place to
- find all sorts!
-
- **********
- The demo is 1 disk, and requires only a BASE A1200 (not even fast ram!), to
- run. It last just under 18 minutes :)) , and includes some useful information
- about the Amiga in general.
-
- It is self booting, and will loop forever. Oh, and all the demos have been
- hand-picked to get the best possible on a base A1200. I think they're great!
- **********
-
- I am hoping that anyone with a base A1200 (or one with a switchable
- accelerator), can tell me if any of the demos runs SLOWLY or not. By SLOW, I
- mean only a few (less than, say, 5 or so) frames a second. Everything should
- work atleast on a base A1200.
-
- Please state what section & demo runs slowly - i.e. "3rd Demo, blurred torus
- section runs at 0.5 fps!".
-
- ####### Helpful critisisms are also welcome.
-
- The disk is available (for testing & opinions at the moment), as:
- 1. One LhA archive, about 740k.
- 2. Two LhA archives, about 300k & 442k.
- 3. One DMS archive, about 755k.
- [4. Others if really required, but preferably not.]
-
- PLEASE NOTE - a double/low density disk (as used by an A1200), formatted as PC
- disk, will only hold 720k - so if you are going to take this from a pc to
- Amiga via a floppy disk (and "PC0:" drive!), and don`t know how to split a
- file, then option 2 is best (i.e. using 2 floppies, one for each file).
-
- Obviously for the LhA archive, you will need to extract to a FFS disk with an
- installed bootblock ("Install df0:" in Shell). I may have time to give some
- guidance as to how to unpack the archive (once unuuencoded by the mailer), if
- required. I'm sure inexperienced users might like to try aswell!
-
-
- Please send a SHORT request to my email address - I'm running close to my
- allowable 2Mb account limit (can go higher, but only for a while). I will
- send the file(s) by email (uuencoded).
-
-
-
- I really appreciate any tesing/opinions/helpful-critisisms that anyone can do!
- :) When I've finished doing any alterations that are suggested (&
- good/possible), I'm going to post it to the Aminet, and may also post it to
- people personally by email if requested. With the Aminet, I'm going to have
- to learn how to FTP <gulp>... [Can anyone help me with ftp on the pc?]
-
- Thanks in advance.
-
-
- Just to clear up any confusion, the disk I'm doing is a COMPILATION - that is
- a collection of other peoples (hard) work! Not actually doing any of the
- programing myself - I'm certainly not up to that. ;)
-
- Most of the demos were obtain from the stupidly vast collection of demos on
- the Aminet - I must have downloaded atleast 10-20Mb of the stuff :))) . I've
- also got 2 Aminet CDs to aid me! The disk is a collection of the best I have
- found, which fits the tight criteria of fitting on less than 1 disk,
- auto-exiting & no swearing, etc... And running on a plain A1200! Not many
- were left after that! Then they had to be (generally speaking) quite
- colourful & fast - it's a shop demo afterall.
-
- This post has already created rather a fast response :)) . That is 6 requests
- (several from the USA:) in 7-8 hours! Looks like there is some need for such
- a demo - anyone else feel up to *coding* a cool demo; or atleast doing minor
- alteration to an really good demo (helped by whoever programed it)?
